Herb was born on July 12, 1954 in Decatur, IL, the son of Herb Sr. and Ann Lust. He married Cheryl York on April 10, 1982 in Bement, IL. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2008.

Survivors include his mother: Ann Lust of Bement, Children: Kristopher (Heather) Lust of Hammond, IL and Jennifer Lust of Normal, IL, Granddaughter: Kelsey Lust, Brother: Howard (Kay) Lust of Bement IL, Sisters: Kathryn Lust of San Francisco, CA, and Donna (John) Parks of Urbana IL,

He was preceded in death by his wife, father: Herbert Lust, Sr. of Bement, sister: Cindy Lust of Champaign, maternal grandparents: Joe & Frances Halterman of Bement, paternal grandparents: Henry and Audrey Lust of Hammond, and in-laws: Dennis and Faith York of Lawrenceville, IL.

Herb was the owner and operator of a municipal watermain contracting company, Universal Mechanical. He attended the Hammond United Methodist Church. Herb was a dedicated and faithful participant in Promise Keepers, a men's prayer group.

Memorials are suggested to the Hammond United Methodist Church.
