Helen M. Sanderson, 88, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 1:55 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with Rev. Justin Snider officiating. Burial will follow at the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, IL.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at the funeral home.

Helen was born on October 31, 1930 in rural Bourbon, IL, the daughter of Harry W. and Mildred Blanche Harrington McConnell.

Helen married Charles L. Sanderson on May 14, 1950 in Bourbon, IL. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2004.

Survivors include her children: Sue (David) Snyder of Tuscola and Steve Sanderson of Westfield, IN, grandchildren: Matthew Snyder, Tamara Snyder and Lucas Sanderson and a great-granddaughter: Bethany Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter-in-law: Cheryl Little Sanderson.

Helen was the secretary at South Ward, North Ward and East Prairie Elementary schools from 1948-1953 and 1964-1992.

Helen was a member of the Tuscola First Christian Church, Women of the Moose and a 50 year plus member of the Tuscola Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed being with her family, friends and a really good book.

The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at Carle Cancer Center, the staff and friends at Jarman Center and the nurses at Carle Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Douglas County Museum or Carle Hospice.
