Helen Logan

Helen Mae Walls Duhamell Logan, 96, of Arcola, died peacefully at 4:07 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Harmony Center in Mattoon.

Helen was born October 31, 1923 in North Okaw, IL, the daughter of Daniel Oscar and Alta Younger Walls. She married Charles Edward Duhamell February 24, 1945 and was married for 18 years before his passing on July 11, 1963. Helen married Clyde Morris Logan on August 8, 1967.  They resided in Arcola for 42 years until his passing on December 8, 2009.

Helen graduated from Arcola High School and remained in the area. She worked as a cook at the Arcola High School and a waitress at the A&W in Arcola. Helen enjoyed the simpler things in life including crocheting, baking and cooking (everyone knew her best for her chocolate covered peanuts,) and she loved to read.  She was also an Illinois basketball fan and enjoyed watching the games with her husband, Clyde.  Helen also enjoyed being a farmer's wife for much of her life with Clyde.  Helen was a long-time member of Arcola United Methodist Church and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Helen lived a life full of happiness and joy and she will be missed, but the memories of her will live on.

Survivors include children, Linda (Larry) Lytle of Taylorville, Dan (Suzanne) Duhamell of Nixa, MO, Chris (Randy) Waymack of Arcola, Janis (Steve) Walk of Mattoon, Jim (Carol) Logan of Camargo, and Jack (Linda) Logan of Arcola; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Green of Urbana, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Duhamell, husband Clyde Logan, brother Robert Walls, sister Dorothy Bright, and sister Mary Ballenberger.

A private graveside service will be held at the Arcola Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Arcola Public Library and the Arcola United Methodist Church. Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
