Helen W. Duensing, 89, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 5:07 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Scott Zorn officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Kansas, IL.
Helen was born on April 29, 1922 in rural Oakland, IL, the daughter of Louie F. and Veva Mae Yenawine Honn. She married Francis E. Duensing on November 24, 1940 in Paris, IL. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1997.
Survivors include her daughters: Linda Mattlin of Wasilla, AK, Rita (Bob) Thompson of Fairmount, IL, Nola (Ron) Waugh of Tuscola, IL, 6 grandchildren: Marty Mattlin, Rae Wyatt Queen, Chad Sanderson, Adam Sanderson, Amy O'Neill and Holly Ahearn, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters: Betty (Todd) Fouty of Oak Park Heights, MN, Ruth Ann (Dick) Bennett of Westfield, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter: Leanne Duensing, granddaughter: Christina Mattlin and great-grandson: Caleb O'Neill
Helen was a retired bookkeeper. She and her husband owned and operated the Duensing Standard Oil gas station in downtown Tuscola for many years. Helen attended the Tuscola First Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, stamp collecting and gardening. Helen was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
