Hazel I. Sluder, 88, of Tuscola, IL, formerly of Belleville, IL, passed away at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday April 23, 2008 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Pastor Mark Wiesner officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M., Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
The Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, is handling the local arrangements.
Mrs. Sluder was born on September 20, 1919 in Jasper County, IL, the daughter of Harvey and Amy Coverstone Isley. She married Edward E. Sluder on November 17, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1987.
Survivors include: 3 Sons: Doug Sluder of Cincinnati, OH, Les Sluder of Tuscola, IL, Mike Sluder and wife: Diana of Washington, IL, Nine Grandchildren, Eight Great-Grandchildren, One Sister: Helen Kramer and husband: Robert of Galion, OH
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Two Brothers and One Sister
Mrs. Sluder was a retired school teacher, having taught Home Economics and English at Westervelt High School, Westervelt, IL and Wirth Junior High School in Cahokia, IL. She was a member of the Signal Hill Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL. She was also a member of the National Retired Teachers Association and she was a life master of the American Contract Bridge League. She received her B.A. Degree from Eastern Illinois University and her M.A. Degree in Education and post graduate work from the University of Illinois.
