Hazel was born on June 12, 1929 in Raleigh, North Carolina, the daughter of Jesse C. and Mary Wester Ball. She married U.S. Marine Sgt. Charles A. Kohlbecker, Sr. on May 14, 1949 at the Community Church in Havelock, NC. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2002.
Survivors include her children Charles Jr. (Joanne), Rose (Michael) Hileman, William Gerald (Dena), Timothy (Lynette), Paul (Katrina), Carol (Steve) Feld, Diane (Bruce) Kauffman, Mark (Julie), Sandy (Steve) Bates and Julie (Lance) Little, 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and her sister Hilda Boyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jesse Gray Ball, Maurice Ball and sister Ruby Bass.

Hazel personified what it meant to be a devoted wife and selfless mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She had a positive impact on the many lives she touched. In her later years she enjoyed walking, whether it be on the beach or in the park. Besides spending time with her extensive family, her interests included: being a member of the Altar Society, reading, crossword puzzles, baking, attending her grandchildren's sports activities and never forgetting a birthday or anniversary.

The family would like to thank her caregivers while she resided at home and Carriage Crossing Senior Living, LLC of Arcola, IL.
Memorials are suggested to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or TCHS Athletic Fund.
