Obituary

Harold Wetzel, 90, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 9:00 P.M., Saturday, May 5, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Bruce Baumberger and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.

Mr. Wetzel was born on March 8, 1917 in Tuscola, IL, the son of Albert and Nettie Riley Wetzel. He married Mary K. Taylor on December 24, 1944 in Tuscola, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter: Sue E. Gavin of Seattle, Washington, son: Steve H. Wetzel and wife: Beverly of Tuscola, IL, 1 Brother: Wilbur Wetzel of Tuscola, IL, 1 Sister: Gladys Strack of Monticello, IL, Grandchildren: Rebecca Wetzel of Chicago, IL and Bradly Wetzel of Harvard, IL and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Edward Wetzel

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Provena Hospice, 1400 West Park, Urbana, IL 61801, Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, IL 61953 or Tuscola Community Foundation, P.O. Box 252, Tuscola, IL 61953

Mr. Wetzel was a farmer, having farmed in the Tuscola area all of his life. Harold was a life-long member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church. He was a former director of the Heartland Grain Co-op and the Douglas County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Tuscola School Board and a former commissioner for the Arcola Drainage District. He loved to work with the young and older groups on Habitat for Humanity projects. He and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
