Harold M. Seip, 89, of San Francisco, CA, passed away at 2:25 a.m, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Welcome Home Hospice, San Francisco, CA
Mr. Seip was born on October 28, 1919 in rural Tuscola, IL, the son of H. Merle and Eva Paul Seip. He never married.
He is survived by his loving family including his brother: Wayne H. Seip and Sister: Helen L. Wirth both of Tuscola, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: George M. Seip of Rosemead, CA, Sisters: Martha A. Vickroy of Arcola, IL, and Jean Albritton of Tuscola, IL.
Harold attended Sipple Grade School and graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1938. He received a BA in 1942 from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL, In the fall of 1942, he began his teaching career, teaching science in Kansas, IL and later in Findley, IL. He received his MS in Chemistry from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. Harold moved to Danville, IL, where he taught Chemistry at Danville High School for 12 years.
In the summer of 1959, he decided to change careers, moving to CA and received a MBA from San Francisco State University in 1959. He went on to manage the Oxford and Roosevelt Hotel in San Francisco until he retired in 1982.
Harold was a true friend and mentor to dozens of people. He gave generously to every organization that he touched and won numerous awards for his volunteer services. Among the many organizations where he gave of his time and talents were: Prime Timers, New Leaf Outreach to Elders, North of Market Senior Services, Senior Action Network and the Healthcare Action Team. In 2003, he received the Harry Hay Award at the Geezers Ball.
Harold had many talents: leather work, creating and making sterling silver jewelry and his last talent, he crafted exquisitely decorated egg shells.
His creations were: musical jewelry boxes, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, clocks made from all sizes of egg shells.
He was president of the Northern California Egg Association from 1981 to 1993. He made a jewel box egg for the Sonoma Marin Fair, which won first prize and was entered at the California State Fair where it won a prize as well.
He was honored at the Prime Timers meeting on November 2, 2008, with a celebration of his life. Many of his friends attended and all had a great time.
