Obituary

Harold Edward Scott, 82, of Arcola, died at 8:26 AM Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital near Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Donald Winch officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of services. A graveside committal service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 7th at the Zion Cemetery in Lincoln.

Mr. Scott was born June 29, 1926 in Ottawa, the son of Alonzo and Ruth Mang Scott. He married the love of his life Elise Singer on August 9, 1953 in Sycamore. She survives.

Besides his wife, Elise, he is survived by one brother, Herb Scott and wife Dolly of Houston, Texas; and niece, Kay Scott of Texas.

Mr. Scott graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Lincoln College for one year. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Illinois Wesleyan and his Master's Degree in Arts from the University of Illinois. He taught in Clifton for 2 years; taught in Mt. Pulaski for one year; and taught band and was the band director at Arcola High School for 27 years.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Arcola Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder. He was also a member of the Arcola Education Association, Illinois Education Association, Music Educators National Association, life member of the Lincoln AF&AM Lodge #210, and member of the Valley of Bloomington Consistory.

He played saxophone, clarinet, and piano in his band and other bands. He loved music, especially jazz concerts, and enjoyed theater in both New York City and Chicago. He loved to travel with his wife all over the United States and enjoyed his yard, his roses, and photography.
