Harold (Ruty) Eugene Rutan, 85, of Arthur, died at 1:46 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his residence.

Harold was born February 4, 1933 in Charleston, the son of Clifford and Olive Bryant Rutan. He married Betty Wood in Arthur on January 13, 1979; she survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Michael) Moutray of Varna; stepdaughter, Lisa (Dick) Agge of Sullivan; grandsons, Tyler (Kate) Moutray of Magnolia, IL; Ryan (Brittney) Moutray of Peru, IL; Nicholas (Shaina) Wood of Texas; granddaughters,  Beth (Ryan) McCann of Imperial, Missouri; Cathryn Agge of Greenwood, Indiana; Megan (Jason) Wood of Edwardsville; great grandchildren, Avery, Morgan, Taylor, Charlotte, Kennedy, Delaney, and Nolan; brother, Charles Rutan of Ashmore; sister, Vera Hackett of Charleston.

He was preceded in death by son, Steven Rutan; stepson Mitch Wood; grandson, Bryan Agge; sisters, Evelyn Satterfield and Catherine Van Tassel.

Harold retired after more than 30 years at USI-Lyondell Bassell in Tuscola. He served our country in the army during the Korean War.  Ruty had a passion for horseshoes and ping pong.  He and Betty enjoyed several horseshoe tournaments around the state each year.  He won the Illinois State Horseshoe Throwing Title.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.
