Guyneth I. Walker, 93, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 10:31 pm, Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.


Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Dillon Burroughs and Rev. Daryl Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL.


Mrs. Walker was born on December 2, 1916, in rural White Heath, IL, the daughter of Troy and Irene Valentine Blacker. She married Jesse A. Walker on August 1, 1945, at her parents' home in rural White Heath. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1972.


Survivors include 2 sons and 1 daughter: David Walker and wife Marveen; Leo Walker and wife Jana, both of Atwood; and Dorothy Martin and husband Terry of Terre Haute, IN. Mrs. Walker had a deep affection for her 10 grandchildren: John Walker, Rebecca McCulloch, Joshua Poucher, Deborah Burroughs, Marla Alupoaicei, Douglas DeShong, Colleen Rodriguez, Cecilia Cowart, Timothy Walker and Hope Walker and her 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her 2 sisters: Ruth Ryder of Normal and Geneva Werfal of Whitewater, WI.


She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 grandson.

Mrs. Walker was a loving and devoted homemaker. Prior to her marriage, she taught at several one-room country schools in Piatt County. She continued touching lives as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and as a valued member of the local Home Extension. She has written several articles that have been published in magazines, journals and short story compilations. Her wonderful cooking and gentle spirit will be remembered in the lives she touched.
