Gladys Baker, 101, of Atwood, IL passed away at 1:45 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Lake Fork United Church of Christ, rural Atwood, IL with Rev. Harold Harmison officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, Atwood, IL.
Gladys was born September 22, 1912 in Douglas County, IL, the daughter of Hans and Dorothea (Fay) Cordts. She married Claude Baker on March 18, 1934. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1994.
Gladys is survived by her 2 daughters: Dorothy (Lloyd) Lowder of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Barbara Harshbarger of Atwood; 6 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law: Charles Harshbarger, sister: Wilmina and 2 brothers: Vernon and Ralph.
As a child, Gladys was nicknamed "Happy" as she always had a smile on her face and touched the lives all those who knew her. Gladys loved cooking, gardening and being a farmer's wife for 60 years. Gladys was a 1930 graduate of Atwood High School. She was active in the Lake Fork Church Woman's Fellowship, Eastern Star and the Atwood Woman's Club.
The family would like to thank Tuscola Health Care Center and Dr. Roberts for taking such great care of Gladys for the past several years.
