Gerald Allen "Poppy" Hurt, 90, of Tuscola, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL.
He was born August 23, 1925 in Clark County, IL. He was the son of Harold Allen Hurt and Pearl Irene (Shick) Hurt, and they preceded him in death. Gerald married Helen Louise Ulrey on April 28, 1946 in Henderson, KY, and she survives.
In addition, he is survived by two daughters, Carole Ann (John) Brandenburg of Atwood, IL and Becky Sue (Bob) White of Bushnell, IL, and son Michael Allen (Jamsie) Hurt of Jacksonville, IL. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn (Phil) Kitchen, of Arthur, Ill. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Gerald was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and a Central Illinois Honor Flight participant, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
He worked nearly 70 years in the farming industry, retiring at the age of 88. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5762 of Casey, Ill. Poppy loved spending time with his family, his work and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini sports.
Family services will be held at a later date in Casey, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Tuscola, IL is in charge of arrangements.
