Geneva Carlet, 98, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Charleston with family at her side.

Geneva was born March 23, 1926 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Kenneth and Lela Grace Dunbar Krackenberger.    She had one brother, Kenneth Krackenberger, deceased.

She graduated from high school just after her 16th birthday.  She met Frank Carlet on December 31, 1944 and they married on June 27, 1945 and celebrated 78 years together.  He passed away May 6, 2024.

During the course of their marriage, they had 5 children, Frank Carlet III (Eloise) of Powell, Ohio;  James T. Carlet (Karen) of Mission, Kansas; Joseph G. Carlet (Joy) of Houston, Texas; Geneva M. Boyd (Ernie) of Springfield, Illinois; and Charlotte Gano (Ken) of Charleston, Illinois.  They have several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Frank Carlett III,  and Joseph Carlet; and son-in-law, Ernie Boyd.

Geneva worked various jobs in her teen years, including sterilizing instruments for a dentist, working in  a canning factory, and working for the railroad.  In the early 1970's she passed the exam for selling stock, bonds, and insurance and later became a realtor.  She enjoyed investing in the stock market.

She was a master at getting the family together and making big meals.  She was an excellent cook and home architect.

She died from a broken heart.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 921 Madison Avenue, Charleston.  Inurnment will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.

Memorials are suggested to the Charleston Food Pantry, 990 W. State Street, Charleston.
