Fred L. Harshbarger, 83, of Atwood, IL passed away at 7:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011at the Lake Fork United Church of Christ with Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, IL.

Mr. Harshbarger was born April 2, 1928 in rural Garrett, IL the son of Herman and Marie Wolford Harshbarger. He married Marilyn J. Lowe on July 16, 1948 and she preceded him in death on November 27, 1988. He married Betty Reeder Fombelle on October 20, 1990. She survives.

He is also survived by his children: Roger (June) Harshbarger of Atwood, IL; Linda (Tom) Nation of Tuscola, IL: Sandy (Glen) Simpson of Tuscola, IL; and Randy (Suzanne) Harsbarger of Stevensville, MI; 9 Grandchildren: Stacie Long of Chicago, IL; Stephanie Jones of Granite City, IL; Elyse Harshbarger of Washington, IL; Kristin Kieft of Champaign, IL; Courtney Nation of Rantoul, IL; Evan Simpson of Tuscola, IL; Megan Simpson of Tuscola, IL; Adam Harshbarger of Stevensville, MI and David Harshbarger of Stevensville, MI; and a Great-Granddaughter: Lauren Jones; Brother: Carl (Sharon) Harshbarger of Decatur, IL and Sister: Norma Ingrum of Atwood, IL. He is also survived by a Step-Son: Reed (Joann) Fombelle of Atwood, IL; 2 Step-Daughters: Becky (Rod) Liffick of Newman, IL; and Marty (Larry) Jones of Sullivan, IL; 5 Step-Grandchildren and 4 Step-Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother: Dale Harshbarger and Sister: Martha Birch.

Fred was a member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ, Atwood, IL; the Atwood Lions Club and was an Atwood Village Trustee for many years. Fred was an avid Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He was a graduate of Atwood High School class of 1945. Fred worked for USI Quantum Chemical Company for many years as a pipe fitter.
