Obituary
Mr. Francis Randell, age 84, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Eric Garlick and Rev. Bruce Baumberger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday, March 23, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Camargo Cemetery, Camargo, IL.
Mr. Randell was born on September 20, 1922 at Newman, IL, the son of James L. and Florence Peithman Randell. He graduated from Tuscola High School in 1940, and then worked as a machinist in Indianapolis until he entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with the 541st Ordinance Company in the European Theatre during World War II, and he was honorably discharged in November 1945.
After his discharge from the Army he began farming in Douglas County, southeast of Tuscola, and continued farming until his retirement. He especially enjoyed bird watching, gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was a life-long member of Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, where he served as church secretary for many years.
Francis married Phyllis Knaus on January 17, 1948 in Tolono, IL. She survives.
He also leaves a brother, Roscoe (Marje) of Urbana; Two sons, Mark of Tuscola, Philip (Debby) of Denver, Colorado; One daughter, Jean (Jerry) Leonard of Tuscola; Seven grandchildren, Jason (Denise) Leonard, Jeff and Jonathan Leonard, Jill Randell, James (Veronica) Randell, Chelsea and Emily Randell, and Two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Leonard and Grace Randell.
He was preceded in death by a son: Jim, a sister: Mary, and three brothers: Robert, Warren and Howard.
