Essie Mae Harlin, 98, of Arthur, died at 9:20 AM Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Mason Point, rural Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2014 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with the Revs. John Stewart and Patrick Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the funeral home.

Essie was born April 4, 1916 in Gamaliel, Kentucky, the daughter of Ed and Iva Profitt Ryherd. She married Cordell C. Harlin in Gamaliel, Kentucky on May 13, 1935; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1977.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Gray of Arthur; grandson, James "Corky" Harlin of Arthur; 3 great grandsons, Jason Harlin of Arthur; Jeremy Harlin of Jacksonville; Cordell Harlin of Champaign; 6 great great grandchildren, Trenton Harlin of Arthur; Gavin Harlin of Sullivan; Isabel Harlin of Arthur; Allie and Kirsten O'Neal of Sullivan; Marissa Harlin of Champaign; 3 brothers, Audie Ryherd of Sullivan; Dwaine Ryherd of Vandalia, Ohio; Jimmy Ryherd of Gamaliel, Kentucky; 2 sisters, Wilma O'Banion of Gamaliel, Kentucky; and Faye (Duane) Oye of Arthur. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Murl Harlin; 3 brothers, Clyde, Carl, and Paul Ryherd; and 2 sisters, Eva Whitis and Dean Davis.

Essie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arthur. She formerly worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Sullivan and as an interior seamstress at Progress Industries in Arthur. She loved her family and grandchildren; gardening; and quilting.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church of Arthur.
