Obituary

Elizabeth Boatman Moore was born at home to Nettie O. and John Boatman near England Arkansas on 12 March 1919. She was delivered by the family doctor who arrived via horse and buggy. She was the second of three children. After her older sister, Mildred, died at the age of three, Elizabeth and her younger sister, Ruby, became constant companions, since there was only 2 years difference in their ages. Elizabeth and Ruby started school in England but continued in Hamilton schools as they grew older. During high school, both Elizabeth and Ruby were on the ladies basketball team where Elizabeth played forward (at the height of 5 ft 1 in) while her sister Ruby played guard. After they graduated from Hamilton HS, they moved to Russell Ark to graduate from Russell HS in 1939, which was accredited for college.

Elizabeth expected to continue in college but she met Robert Percy Moore at Russell HS. After less than a year of dating, they were married on Sept 2, 1939 in Carlisle, Ark.

They bought the Moore family farm and house in Russell, Ark. During their early marriage they farmed and RP worked on road construction. In 1943 RP joined the Navy and was shipped to the Great Lakes and San Diego for training. Elizabeth soon followed on the train to San Diego. She worked for about four months at an aircraft defense factory where she distributed parts. She shortly became pregnant and returned to Arkansas to live with her parents while RP continued onto to Hawaii. In August 1945, RP got leave and came home to see his new daughter, Ruth Ann (10 months old).

Following RP's discharge from the Navy in late 1945, they moved to Pryor, Oklahoma, where RP used the GI bill to complete training in electronics. Following training, RP got a job in Tulsa in 1948 and a son, John Michael, was born. In 1950, RP was hired by a chemical plant in Brownsville, Texas. After they moved to Brownsville, John Michael accidently died in a car accident. In 1954, RP started work for United States Industrial Chemical Corp in Tuscola Ill from which he retired in 1981.

Since Ruth was in school, Elizabeth took up the hobby of ceramics and taught classes in her home. In 1957 and follow on years, Elizabeth and RP physically built 4 houses in Southland Acres in Tuscola, Ill. After Ruth started college, RP and Elizabeth took up dancing and attended dances weekly. During these years, Elizabeth attended oil painting classes in Rockville, Indiana, and specialized in landscapes which continue to be admired by her family and friends. She also maintained a huge garden of which all the neighbors were envious. She was also very involved with the Tuscola Methodist Church where she assisted in Rotary and attended Bible study. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with RP until his death in 1982.
She was very close to her grandsons, Shane and Keith Klumb. She had them for several summer weeks during their formative years, where they learned to play tennis, swim and attended Bible School in Tuscola.

In her later years, she continued to garden, and can and freeze her produce. Until she fell as she canned in Sept 2013, she continued to live alone. She loved to see her great grandchildren and grandsons. Each new great grandchild brought joy to her face as she held them. She lived to see five great grandchildren born and start their paths in life.

She died at 12:00 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2015 at home in Tuscola, surrounded by relatives, at the age of 96. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and son-in-law Tom Klumb (Mooresville NC), grandson Keith Klumb and his wife Gina (Dublin Cal), grandson Shane Klumb (Detroit, Mich) and five great grandchildren ( Riley and Sydney Klumb of Detroit; Nathan, Nicholas, and Samantha Klumb of Dublin Cal. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews including Mattie Howerton who was her caregiver and friend for the last two years of her life. She will be buried at Carter Cemetery in Russell, Ark.

She was preceded in death by: her mother Nettie Boatman (Russell, Ark); father John Boatman (Russell, Ark); sisters Mildred Boatman (England Ark) and Ruby Boatman Roetzel (Russell, Ark); son John Michael Moore (Russell, Ark); and husband Robert Percy Moore (Russell, Ark).
