Edward E. Callahan, age 66, of Atwood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 7, 2026, at Southpoint Nursing Home in Chicago, Illinois. He will be remembered for his kind spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.
Born on May 15, 1959, in Champaign, Illinois, Ed was the beloved son of Chester and Mary Hignite Callahan. On March 5, 1988, he married LaShon K. Terril in Atwood, who lovingly survives him.
Ed is also survived by his brother, Danny (Dawn) Callahan of Florida; his sister, Jane (Rick) Robards of Urbana; and a cherished group of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is further survived by his in-laws, John and Kathy Terril, and his brother-in-law, Chip (Jodie) Terril. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
Ed was a member of the United Church of Atwood, He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Special Olympics, where he made lasting friendships while playing wheelchair basketball. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Fighting Illini, and Indianapolis Colts. Fishing, watching NASCAR, playing cards and dice and spending time with his friends and family were also among his favorite pastimes.
Ed was a member of the last graduating class from Ogden High School in 1977. He formerly worked at the Developmental Services Center in Champaign, IL.
Funeral services honoring Ed's life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Atwood, located at 210 North Main Street, Atwood, Illinois. Rev. Micheal Drake will officiate. Burial will follow at Mackville Cemetery in Atwood. Friends and family are welcome to visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to assist with funeral expenses.
