Edna M. Hale, 94, of Arthur, died at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 12, 2009 at her residence in Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. Dave Dolan officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.
Edna was born May 16, 1915 in Arthur, the daughter of Charles F. and Iva M. Cornwell Ray. She married Paul E. Hale in Dana, Indiana, on December 5, 1936. They were married 59 years and Paul preceded her in death on November 23, 1995.
Survivors include her son, Roger Hale of Arthur; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn Fawkes and husband Steven of London, England; David Hale and wife Shirley of Arthur; Thomas Hale and wife Rita of Southlake, Texas; Tracey Hunter and husband Kevin of Pearland, Texas; Heather Poorman of Arthur; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and sister, Esther Kupish of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Donald, Leonard, LeOral, and Lowes Wayne Ray.
Besides being a homemaker, Edna worked at Grantham's Drug Store during World War II and also worked at the Hoke and Harrer Grocery Store for two years. She was a hairdresser and had her own beauty shop for 30 years in the Arthur community. She attended the First Baptist Church in Arthur and the New Life Tabernacle Church in Sullivan, where she worked as a volunteer in the Ministry Center to help the needy.
Edna was an avid quilter and enjoyed her family and friends.
