Edith Chapman, 87, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 9:50 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, Illinois, with the Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services and from 4 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, Illinois.
Mrs. Chapman was born on September 27, 1926 in the rural Arthur area, the oldest daughter of Ernest and Maude (Wells) Moody. She married John Willard Chapman on August 25, 1946 in Tuscola. John and Edith were married for 63 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Beals of Tuscola, a son, John L. ( Becky) Chapman of Urbana, 2 granddaughters: Tamara of Champaign, and Mendy (John) Stevenson of Riverton, IL, 2 great-granddaughters: Amber ( Ryan Brown) and Alyssa Stevenson both of Riverton, Illinois, a niece Trudy (Bob) Horsman of Sullivan, and a nephew Steve (Patrice) of Castle Rock, Washington.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John W. Chapman, her parents, Ernest and Maude Moody and a sister Evelyn Moody Dick.
Mrs. Chapman graduated from Arthur High School in 1945. She married and moved to Tuscola. There she helped her husband in the grocery store business and at Jack's Laundry for over 28 years. She also worked at Dixie Truck Stop before retiring.
She was a member of The First Christian Church of Tuscola and the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class and the Douglas County Museum.
Her joy was her husband, children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She loved making and giving kitchen towels, gardening, growing African Violets, watching University of Illinois basketball, eating chicken livers at Yoder's Kitchen in Arthur, going to Pizza Hut and visiting with friends.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Benevolence Fund, Tuscola Health Care Activity Fund or Harbor Light Hospice.
