Edith L. Alexander, 98, of Arthur, IL, passed away at 7:10 A.M., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL.
Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL.
Mrs. Alexander was born on December 4, 1915 at Enterprise, north of Cisco, IL the daughter of William R. and Goldie A. Plummer Bruns.
Edith graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1932. After she married Fred V. Alexander in Cerro Gordo on March 1, 1936, she was a farm wife for many years. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1963. After she moved from the farm to Arthur in 1969, she worked for 25 years as a bookkeeper at the Arthur Lumber Yard.
For the past 10 years, Edith has resided at the Arthur Home. Before dementia faded her memory, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, cooking and baking. Her nut cakes with caramel icing were made from that "mysterious scratch" and were sought after at every reunion.
Edith is survived by a son: Gerald V. Alexander and wife: Joyce of Tuscola, IL; 9 grandchildren: Kurt (Becky) Alexander of Decatur, IL; Kim (John) Hofer of Oak Ridge, TN; Lisa (Ravshan) Uraimov of Almaty, Kazakhstan; Fred Andrew (Kristen) Alexander of Warrensburg, IL; Lisa (Gary) Hadden of Jacksonville, IL; Eric (Stephanie) Alexander of Arthur, IL; Erin (Matt) Pangburn of Villa Grove, IL; Ty (Heather) Alexander of Springfield, MO and Jeremy (Marci) Alexander of O'Fallon, MO and 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and sister-in-law: Linda Bruns of Yucaipa, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sons: Larry W. Alexander, Ronald F. Alexander and Robert A. Alexander; 4 brothers: Everett, Ivan, Billy and Bobby Bruns and a sister: Irene Hickman.
Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Tuscola United Methodist Church, Tuscola, IL.
