Earl E. Harshbarger, 95, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at his residence, the same day his wife passed away 16 years ago.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, IL
Earl was born on August 12, 1918 in Piatt County, IL, the son of Horace P. and Daisy Starr Harshbarger. He married Luella Benz on June 30, 1937. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1997.
Survivors include his son: Larry (Darlene) Harshbarger of Decatur, IL, daughter: Joan Gillmore of Atwood, IL, 4 grandchildren: Rhonda (Ed) Willmore, Dianna (Mark) Brian, Pamela (Doug) Campbell, Stacy (Jeff) Branson, 7 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, son-in-law: Earl R. Gillmore and a great-great-grandson.
Earl farmed in Piatt County for over 50 years, he started out farming with horses and shucking corn by hand. He was the oldest attending member of the Lake Fork United Church of Christ, which his great-grandfather, Samuel Harshbarger, was a founding member of.
Earl was a member of the Atwood Lions Club. He was a member and served twice as past worshipful master of the Atwood Masonic Lodge #651, AF & AM.
Earl loved to pheasant and quail hunt. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Okeechobee in Florida and at Lake Shelbyville. Earl loved to trap shoot, have coffee with his many friends and watch the Chicago Bulls and Fighting Illini.
