E. LaVonne Smith, 98, of Arcola, IL, passed away at 12:33 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Arcola United Methodist Church, 121 South Locust Street, Arcola, IL with Rev. Vince Rohn officiating. Burial will be in the Arcola Township Cemetery, Arcola, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Shrader Funeral Home, 204 North Locust Street, Arcola, IL.
LaVonne was born on October 8, 1917 in rural Arcola, IL, a daughter of Adam and Katie Mattingly Smith. She married Harry R. Smith on November 17, 1947 at Effingham, IL. He died on August 28, 1994.
Survivors include her daughter: Barbara Hein and husband: Richard of Arthur, IL., niece: Sherry Sue Fitzjarrald and husband: Joel of Arthur, IL, nephews: Terry S. Daugherty and wife: Brenda of Huntersville, NC, Philip R. Schultz and his wife: Brenda of Champaign, IL, Robert E. Smith and wife: Natalie of Arcola, IL and William H. Smith and wife: Elizabeth of Plainfield, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sisters: Wanda "Jo" Schultz and Wilma "Poog" Daugherty.
Mrs. Smith "Vonnie" worked in the office of the Douglas County Clerk for thirty years, having retired from there in 1980.
She then worked part-time in the office of Supervisor of Assessments for eight years.
LaVonne was an active member of the Arcola United Methodist Church.
And a very special "Thank You" to her wonderful caregivers: Cheryl Steproe, Cora Otto, Irene Miller and Irene Kuhns.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arcola United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
