The Lord wrapped his arms around Dorothy "Doon" M. Wilkinson, 99, the oldest resident of Humboldt, at 1:49 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Humboldt United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
"Doon" was born March 30, 1911 in Humboldt, the daughter of Nathaniel and Cora Edith Hill Carpenter. She married Paul Callahan and he preceded her in death and then married Harold Wilkinson who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Peggy Hines of Humboldt; Janis VanDeveer of Mattoon; stepson, Don Wilkinson of Littleton, Colorado; brother, Mark Carpenter of Utica, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; and 6 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 2 sisters, and 2 grandchildren.
"Doon" was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church for 85 years. She had been employed at the Hi Flyer Kite Factory in Decatur. She loved to bake apple pies, can jelly, and work in her yard.
Memorials are suggested to the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
