Dorothy McCumber, 82, of rural Villa Grove, IL, passed away at 2:14 A.M., Saturday, October 27, 2007 at her residence with her loving family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Nicholas Showalter officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Camargo Cemetery, Camargo, IL.
Mrs. McCumber was born on March 29, 1925 in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of Bruce T. and Frances G. Collings Williams. She married Dwight McCumber on April 8, 1944 in San Luis Obispo, CA. He survives.
Other survivors include her children: Jeanette Lecher and husband: Dave of Tuscola, IL, Jeanelle Mitsdarfer and husband: Kenneth of Charleston, IL, Darrell McCumber and wife: Janet of Camargo, IL, 3 Grandchildren: Mallory Blair McCumber, Devon West McCumber and Eric Phillip Lecher.
She was preceded in death by her Parents and Infant Sister: Doris Evelyn Williams
Dorothy retired as postmaster from the Ridge Farm Post Office in 1991. She was a member of the Camargo United Methodist Church. She was Vice President of Retirees for the National League of Postmasters. She was a former Villa Grove PTA President.
She was a volunteer for the Special Olympics, Douglas County Museum and the Korean War Museum. She was a 1943 graduate and past class president of the Tuscola Community High School. She was an avid reader and gardener. She loved to collect items, travel and spend time with her loving family.
