Obituary

Doris Joy Nunn Kleiss, 84, of Tuscola, passed away peacefully at Carriage Crossing, Arcola, IL at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on November 1, 1930 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. She was the 6th of 8 children born to Jesse Lee and Rachel Katherine Lamm Nunn. At an early age, her family moved to Kremmling, Colorado. Upon graduation from Kremmling High School, she and her sister travelled by Grayhound bus visiting relatives across the United States. While visiting her brother and sister-in-law in Atwood, IL she met her future husband, Alfred E. "Sonny" Kleiss. After an old fashioned letter writing courtship they married on May 27, 1950. Sonny preceded her in death on June 4, 1998.

This loving marriage produced six children: James Edwin, Janice Lynn Moody, Marcian Henry, Anthony Eugene (Barb), Daniel Joseph (Amy) and Joyce Elaine (Dave) Arseneau. 15 grandchildren: Ryan & Dylan Kleiss, Brian (Kate) Moody, Zachary Moody (Alicia), Matt Moody (Alisha), Tiffany Wingert, Robbie Kleiss (Jessica), Rachel Kleiss (Phil), Lyndsay (Matt) Williams, Daniel Kane Kleiss, Cory (Kristin) Kleiss, Jessica Kleiss (Bo), Katie (Mike) Mills, Austin (Micki) Arseneau, and Eric Arseneau (Lisa), 13 great-grandchildren, brother: Max Nunn and wife: Rose May, brother-in-law: Ed (Kay) Kleiss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson: Jesse Douglas Kleiss, son-in-law: Fred Moody, in-laws: Henry & Vangie Kleiss, brothers: Keith, Norman, Norris and Wayne Nunn, sisters: Carol Tunkin and Ardith Kleiss Lambert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Forty Martyrs Altar Society or to the Tuscola Community Foundation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, IL, with Father Delix Michel as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pesotum, IL.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. A vigil service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Doris formerly worked as a switch board operator. She then worked at Jarman Hospital and for Dr. Walter Steiner for many years. Doris retired from The Pharmacy in 2000.

Doris was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Altar Society and Douglas County Museum Association. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her many family members and planning family reunions. Doris's beliefs in faith and family were the most important parts of her life. She was very grateful to God for providing her with so many gifts. She felt humbled that God was so generous to her.
