Doris I. Akers, 77, of Tuscola, formerly of Villa Grove, IL, passed away at 1:55 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Graveside Services will be held immediately following at the Villa Grove Cemetery, Villa Grove, IL with Lay Minister Pete Lake officiating.

Doris was born on May 31, 1942 in Newman, IL, the daughter of Floyd E. and Virginia Lamb Taylor. She married James "Pete" Akers on July 30, 1960 in Camargo, IL. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1996.

Survivors include her sons: Michael (Kimberly) Akers and Timothy (Catrina) Akers both of Villa Grove, grandsons: Stephen (Sabrina) Akers and Daniel Akers both of Villa Grove, step-grandchildren: Brittany (Kenny) Cordes and Cody Walker both of Villa Grove, Ashley Simpson of Shelbyville, TN, 2 step-great-grandchildren: Kayln and Mattison Cordes, sister: Marcy Heminger of Paris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Russell and Richard Taylor and a step-great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the family to help pay for funeral expenses.

Doris was a bundle hauler for the News-Gazette for over 30 years.
