Donald “Doc” Slade, 69 of Garrett, passed away peacefully surrounded by his girls at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donald was born on October 21, 1956 in Spokane, Washington, the son of James R. and Dorcas L. Manley Slade. He married Kimberly M. Dicco on October 16, 2000 in Champaign. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters: Vernita (Randy) Henson of Atwood, Katy (Mitch) Patient of Atwood and Sara (Jason) Combs of St. Joseph, stepdaughter: Jaimee McPherson, grandchildren: Kaci, Stephani, Caleb, Jacob, Elizabeth, Lillian, Gabe and Alivia, great-grandson: Declan, step-grandchildren: Ariel and Lauren, step great-grandchildren: Taylin and Tykari; brother: Jim (Sharon) Slade of Hammond, nieces: Jennifer and Amanda, great-nieces and nephews: Tyler, Jordan, Kyle, Molly and Kaden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Susie Cripe, niece; Shellie Cripe, sons-in-law: Chuck Spry and DJ Hart. great-grandson: Hayden Shonkwiler.

Donald didn’t know a stranger. He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage and had a great knowledge of everything. Donald enjoyed camping and traveling to state parks. He enjoyed gardening and gave plant advice to his girls. He had a great love for his dogs and enjoyed riding his Harley.

Donald formerly worked in the boiler-room at AC Humko and worked for Illini FS.
