Dolores Evelyn (Askew) Lust, aged 97, of Hammond, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:09 AM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Savoy Place Memory Care in Savoy, Illinois, surrounded by family and her special team of caregivers.

Funeral services to honor her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Hammond United Methodist Church with Pastor Leland Legg officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dolores will be laid to rest at the Hammond Cemetery.

Born on July 8, 1928, in Windsor, North Dakota, to the late Luther and Pansy (Daily) Askew, Dolores and family moved to Decatur, Illinois where she graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1946.

After graduation she worked as a telephone operator until she met and married the love of her life, Leland T. Lust on January 22, 1949 in Decatur and together they spent a life on the farm of over 77 years filled with warmth, faith, and family.

From a young age, Dolores enjoyed drawing cartoon characters and portraits. Her artistic talent and fashion sense were put to good use for many years working in retail sales of women’s apparel at Four Seasons of Tuscola and Kaiser’s of Monticello clothing stores. She also enjoyed music and was especially fond of Elvis Presley Gospel songs which she listened to until the very end.

She was a devoted member of the Hammond United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in church events.

Dolores is survived by her husband and her children: son: Charles “Ted” Lust and wife, Danita of Tuscola, daughters: Carol Randall and husband, Rod, of Arthur, and Debbie Lust-Gentille of Hammond.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of pride and joy to her. They are grandsons: Charles Lust of Murphysboro, IL, Brandon Lust and wife, Tatiana, of Carmel, IN, Rob Randall of Los Angeles, CA: and granddaughter: Jennifer (Randall) McCormick and husband, Kyle, of Chatham, IL.

Step-grandchildren include: Abbie Williams and husband Kelly of Tuscola, IL and Elliot Harriss and wife Audrey of Tuscola, IL.

Great-grandchildren: Thomas Lust, Ryker McCormick, Liliana Lust, and step-great-grandchildren: Ellary, Isla, Mabel, and Maren Harriss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Edwin Askew, sister Dora (Askew) Morr, and son-in-law, Mike Gentille.

Memorials are suggested to the Hammond United Methodist Church.
