Derald E. Morthland, 90, of Arthur, IL, passed away Wednesday evening, September 17, 2025, at Carriage Crossing in Arcola, IL.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East U.S. Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Derald was born August 15, 1935, in Warrensburg, the son of Herschel and Effie A. (Jordan) Morthland. He married Joyce M. Smith on September 13, 1968, in Springfield, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Darla Walker and husband Glen of Texas; grandchildren, Mattison Ditter and Nic Ditter; stepdaughter, Tammi Borntreger; and four step-grandchildren and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Smith; and his brother, Wayne Morthland.

Derald served his country in the Illinois Air National Guard. He retired from Caterpillar in Decatur after 41 years, where he worked as Supervisor of Manufacturing.

Raised on a dairy farm, he enjoyed raising Berkshire hogs and was a member of the Berkshire Hog Association.

His hobbies included golfing, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and drag racing. He was a member of Kaskaskia Country Club and spent many winters in Sebring, FL.
