Dennis Duane Terril, 76, of Atwood, IL passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 12, 2024 surrounded by his family after succumbing to lung cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the United Church of Atwood, 210 N. Main St. Atwood with Rev. Micheal Drake officiating. Burial will be in Mackville Cemetery, Atwood.

Masonic Rites will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2024 at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, with visitation immediately following until 8:00 p.m.

Denny was born June 21, 1948 at Jarman Hospital in Tuscola, IL, the son of John N. and Lela F. (Fitzgerald) Terril, Sr.  He grew up in rural Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1966.  After graduation he was hired at Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he would work for 44 years, retiring in 2010.  He held many positions such as Stewart, Chief Stewart and Committeeman of the UAW Local 751.

He married Linda Helm on April 5, 1969. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Joni (Mark) Payne and Danny (Gina) Terril, 3 grandchildren: Stephanie (James) Jones, Scott Fifer and Timothy Smith; 3 great-grandchildren: Chloe Jones, Emily Jones and Addie Smith; brother: John (Kathy) Terril, Jr. and sister-in-law: Valerie (Helm) Nance.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Sharon (Gerald) Parsano.

Denny enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing the Lake Fork River, trapping, hunting and coaching Little League.  He was a member of the Atwood Masonic Lodge #651 AF & AM and the United Church of Atwood.
