David Owen Traxler, 69 of Mt. Vernon, IL, formerly of Atwood, IL, passed away at 11:15 P.M. on Monday, November 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, IL.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL

Mr. Traxler was born on May 18, 1939 in Atwood, IL, the son of Truman D. and Dorothy M. Shonkwiler Traxler. He married Bertha E. Stephens Walker on April 26, 1969 in Atwood, IL. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2007.

Survivors include his Mother: Dorothy Traxler of Sullivan, IL, 2 Sons: David Traxler and wife: Carol of Philo, IL, Cliff Walker and wife: Kathy of Pinckneyville, IL, 1 Daughter: Tish Buchanan and husband: Alva of Mt. Vernon, IL, 1 Brother: Dale Traxler and wife: Marty of Bloomington, IL, 1 Sister: Diana Sellers and husband: Ray of Atwood, IL, Special Friend and Companion: Pat Hays of Mt. Vernon, IL, 9 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a great-granddaughter.

Mr. Traxler retired from Trunkline Gas Company, where he worked as an operator. He was a member of the Atwood Christian Church. He loved to go hunting, fishing and play his guitar.
