Obituary

David "Pat" Helfrich, 63, of Hammond, IL, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with Rev. Linda Peyla officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL

Pat was born on October 11, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MN, the son of H.M. "Lucky" and Grayce L. Johnson Helfrich. He married Barbara Jean McLain on September 2, 1985 in Monticello, IL. She survives.

Others survivors include his son: Chris (Cassaundra) Helfrich of Clinton, IL, daughter: Tracy Lynn Helfrich of Las Vegas, NV, stepson: Will Thomas Forster, III of Pampa, TX, grandson: Hunter Helfrich, 2 granddaughters, brothers: Howard Michael (Teresa) Helfrich of Mahomet, IL, Robert Edward (Paula) Helfrich of Alpharetta, GA, Bruce Lynn (Judy) Helfrich of Versailles, KY, Daniel Lee (Mary) Helfrich of rural Hammond, IL, nieces: Tara, Heather, Christa, Katie, Sarah Grayce and Kayla, nephews: Seth, Matt and Benjamin, great-nieces and great-nephews: Christian; Lily & Ellery; Christian & Lucy; MacKenzie; and Kaia & Drew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pat was a highly respected, accomplished Senior Pipeline Inspector. He participated in critical natural gas and petroleum pipeline projects throughout the United States. For a number of years Pat's expertise and abilities were utilized internationally, requiring overseas residences including in the Baku Azerbaijan area of Russia and the Antofagasta area of Chile.

Pat was a life-long member of the Hammond United Methodist Church. He graduated from Atwood-Hammond High School in 1968.
