Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Vine Street Christian Church, 249 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. Connie Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur.

Bill was born May 21, 1934 in Lovington, the son of David M. and Mary J. Perkins Brown. He was a graduate of Lovington High School Class of 1952, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University Class of 1956 and a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois in 1963. He was a member of Prairie Avenue Christian Church in Decatur. He married Beverly R. Watson on August 20, 1960 and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2005.

Bill and Beverly had two children who survive, son, William (Bill) Brown and wife Stephanie and daughter, Janis Brown, all of Decatur; brother, Steven Brown of Sullivan; and step-grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Browning; as well as many relatives and friends.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving active duty in 1957 in addition to 7 ½ years in the Reserves. He taught high school math in the Decatur Public Schools for 37 years, first at Lakeview High School until it closed in 1982, and then at Stephen Decatur High School until he retired in 1993. He also taught math part-time at Richland Community College for 10 years, retiring in 2002. At the same time, he was employed as a salesman by Sears Roebuck, when it was located downtown, for 26 years, retiring from the automotive center in 1987.

Bill was an extremely hard-working man throughout his life, selflessly providing for his wife and children. He spent his spare time involved in his kids' activities, whether playing ball in the back yard, attending games or putting up a swimming pool. He loved the holidays and picking out special gifts for his wife and children and making it exciting for everyone. In his retirement, he liked to make Santa Fe style furniture, polish his cars, play pool with his buddies, drink coffee with friends, go fishing, and care for his beloved dog, Prince.
Memorials are suggested to Prairie Avenue Christian Church or the donor's choice.
