David Loren Bartholomew, 60, of Arthur died at 1:04 AM Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at the Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 E. Illinois Street, with Rev. Bruce Weiman officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Washington Street Cemetery in Casey. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur. Masonic Rites will be conducted following the visitation.
David was born July 2, 1955 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Ernest and Patricia Beth Ulrey Bartholomew. He married Gemma McKee at Lake Tahoe, California on August 26, 2005; she survives.
Surviving are his wife, Gemma McKee-Bartholomew of Arthur; mother, Patricia Beth Bartholomew of Arthur; stepdaughter, Eleanor McKee-Volkmer and husband Jeffrey of Carleton, Nebraska; brother, Mark Bartholomew and wife Terrie Dupree of Flower Mound, Texas; 2 nephews, Zachary Bartholomew of Corinth, Texas; and Colten Bartholomew of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
David graduated from Arthur High School Class of 1973. He then attended Eastern Illinois University graduating with a B.A. in Political Science in 1977. He continued his education at Southern Illinois University in the School of Law graduating in 1980.
In 1980, David started as Assistant States Attorney in Douglas County. He was later appointed Douglas County States Attorney. After 1985, he went to Springfield serving first in the Secretary of State's office and then in the Illinois Dept. of Revenue where he was deputy director in law enforcement until retiring in 2009.
David was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church; Arthur Lodge AF&AM #825; Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Danville Consistory; Tri County Ansar Shrine; Illinois Police Association, where he was vice president; and Douglas County Crime Stoppers.
