Obituary

Darin Michael West, known to most people as Dagwood, Dad, and D, left this world on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 7:20 pm. He is now flying high with the other angels above us.

Military honors will be given on Saturday, October 26 at 1 pm at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Tuscola, Illinois. It will be followed by a visitation from 1:30-3:30 and a Celebration of Life at 3:30. The family would love for you to come and share your favorite story of this great man.

Darin "Dagwood" was born on April 22, 1973 in Decatur, Illinois. He was born to Doug and Dianna (Trinkle) West of Atwood, Illinois. They survive as well as his brother, Danny West of Atwood and sister, Debra Wells of Tuscola, Illinois. He is also survived by his nephews, Jay and Gibson, both of Tuscola. He was married to Angela (Ellis) West with a celebration of their union on July 12, 2024 at Hollywood Beach, Florida.

Darin was most proud of his children, who all still survive. Hayden West of Arcola is finishing up his nursing degree at SIUE and Darin was always his biggest supporter and encourager. Mae West is currently studying psychology at UIC and Darin was blessed to spend his last weekend on Earth celebrating her. Jazmine West is a junior at Tuscola High School and her dad and her shared many special trips together whether in town, to the farm, or all the way to DC. Cannon West is a 6th grader at East Prairie Middle School where he is active in JFL and basketball. Darin loved watching Cannon at his games and was so proud of his hard work. Darin is also survived by his two bonus daughters, Julia (10) and Cora (7) Lindquist of Champaign, Illinois.  Darin loved both of these girls like they were his own and always had a gumball or two for them.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dave Trinkle and his paternal grandparents, Junior and Joann West.

Darin graduated from Atwood High School in 1991. After he graduated Darin joined the United States Army where he served in the infantry. He traveled to Korea soon after basic training to be a driver for a General.

"Dagwood" had a career as a Union Worker as part of the IBEW. He was a proud Lineman for 30 years. He was incredible at what he did and even had the opportunity to teach apprentices how to do line work. He loved his career and was incredibly proud of his contributions to his field.

Darin was a friend to all. He loved his wife and children fiercely and always made sure to take incredible care of them all. Family was important to him and so were his friends. Most of the time you could hear him call his friends "brother" because that is how much he loved them all. He had a smile that could brighten up the darkest days, a sense of humor that always provided relief, and a heart that could love the whole world. He left a lifetime of memories and love for all who knew him.
