Dan Allan Ponder, 90, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 9:15 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Carriage Crossing, Arcola, IL.
He was born in Tuscola, IL on August 9, 1924, the son of John R. and Leda Wesch Ponder. Dan graduated from Tuscola Community High School in May of 1942 and played football for the Warriors from 1939 – 1942. Dan began his studies at the University of Illinois prior to his entry in World War II. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on March 18, 1946. Dan then graduated from the U of I with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Dan married Marian L. Northcott on July 16, 1946 in Champaign, IL. Their family home was in Racine, WI, while Dan was employed by the J.I. Case Company. They moved back to the family farm in Tuscola in the fall of 1952. Dan and Marian stayed on the family farm well after his retirement and always called Tuscola their home.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his bride: Marian, who went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter: Pamela Fennewald and son-in-law: Michael Fennewald of Libertyville, IL, son: Clifford Ponder and daughter-in-law: Pamela Reese-Ponder of Tuscola, IL, six grandchildren: Elizabeth Fennewald of Libertyville, IL, Corinne Ponder, Katrina Ponder, Matthew Reese, Michelle Reese and Michael Reese all of Tuscola.
Dan was active in the Tuscola United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, the State of Illinois Drainage Commission and the lives of others.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Ted Mitchell and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Military Rites will be accorded. Dan will be laid to rest in the Tuscola United Methodist Church Columbarium.
