Byron Craig Munsey, 68, of Carmi, Illinois, formerly of Tuscola, passed away at Hamilton Memorial Hospital District, McLeansboro, IL, on Sunday March 9, 2025 following a heart attack.
Craig was born on September 14, 1956, in Carmi Township Hospital, the only son of Frank and Jeannine Munsey.
Craig attended Tuscola schools during his youth and graduated from Springfield High School in 1974. While in high school, Craig was appointed as a Page in the Illinois House of Representatives, by Rep. Paul Stone, of Sullivan. Craig rose to the position of Head Page for the Illinois Democratic Legislature, and worked there for many years. He briefly attended Eastern Illinois University where he was active in politics. In March, 1976 he was appointed Precinct Committeeman of the Democratic Party and Deputy Registrar of the Township of Charleston, Precinct 16. Later in life he moved to Carmi, to be near his grandparents, and used his entrepreneurial spirit to start a retail inventory auditing business, with Huck's as his main client, traveling several states. In retirement, he enjoyed time at home with his beloved dog, Tori, watching March Madness, and following the financial markets.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his three sisters, Phyllis (Troy) Truitt of Tuscola, Lynn (Dan) Schaefer, of Tolono, and Julie (Matt) Beyer of Huntsville, UT, and many nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a private burial.
