Obituary

Charlotte "Darlene" Kerns, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, 76, of Tuscola, formerly of Hammond, passed away peacefully from a long time illness at 10:05 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2015 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wed., April 8, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, with the Rev. Ann Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Darlene was born on May 10, 1938 in rural Lovington, the youngest child of Eldon and Pauline (Ruddock) Bobbett. Darlene was a 1957 graduate of Atwood-Hammond High School.

Surviving her are her only son Chris (Cindy) Kerns of Hammond, granddaughters Amanda Pauline Kerns and Kathryn Lorraine Kerns, her sister Juanita (Harold) Dingman of Latham, sister-in-law Mary Bobbett of Long Creek, nieces Kathy (Dennis) Carlson of Holt, MO, Kim Cormer of Tuscola, Jan (Kevin) Davis of Newman, Diane (Tim) McCarty of Belvidere, Carol (Opie) Allen of Hammond, nephew Guy Comer of Norfolk, VA.She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Charles "Bud" Bobbett and her parents.

Darlene worked for Jarman Hospital in the kitchen for several years. She then worked as a CNA at the Tuscola and Arthur nursing homes. Darlene later worked at Dixie Truck Stop in Tuscola. She loved her dogs and horseback riding. She enjoyed going to county fairs, horse shows, rodeos, stock car races, listening to country music and most of all dancing.

In lieu of flower, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter or National Kidney Foundation-Champaign Chapter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Holly, Dr. Adoni and the nursing staff in the Carle Tower Cardio-Plum Med-Surg A at nurse's station 3A-floor 8: Bryce, Whitney, Caroline, Lauren, Reba, Emily, Donna, Sarah, Cece, Rev. Ann and all of the others that helped to care for her. Also, thank you for the wonderful care from the staff that Darlene received at Brookstone in Tuscola, Heartland Nursing and Rehab Center in Champaign and Champaign-Urbana Dialysis Center in Urbana; a very special thank you to her niece Kim Comer for helping to care for my mother.
