Charles Richard Mateer, 80, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 5:54 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at his residence.

Private family graveside services with military rites accorded will be held the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL.

Charles was born on May 21, 1938 in Fruit Station, IL, the son of Clarence and Naomie Swisher Mateer. He married Carol Lynn Day on November 3, 1962 in Atwood, IL. She survives.

Also surviving is a son: Brian (Leanne) Mateer of Glen Carbon, IL, grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren Mateer, sisters: Rosemary Eads of Collinsville, IL and Geraldine Schuckman of Mulberry Grove, IL

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charles worked as a sheet metal worker for Craftmasters in Decatur, IL for many years. He served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps. Charles was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and a lifelong member of the Arthur Sportsman Club and he loved trap shooting.
