Obituary
Charles Dean Marler, 88, of Tuscola, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 10, 2018, in Decatur, Illinois. Charles, known to many as "Dean", was born February 10, 1930, in Tuscola, to Frank Martin and Marie Jenkins Marler.
Charles attended Illinois State Normal University, served four years in the United States Air Force, and afterward attended Olivet Nazarene University. He married Judith Alice Gregg and to them were born Heather Gregg Marler, Noel Jared Marler, and David Martin Marler.
He found great joy and fulfillment teaching science in Springfield, Illinois, for approximately 30 years, then retired back to Tuscola where he spent most of the remainder of his life. He enjoyed aviation as a hobby, reading and studying the Holy Scriptures, and attending several Bible studies with friends in the Tuscola community. His children and grandchildren were a source of great joy and pride and he treasured the time spent with them.
He is survived by his daughter Heather Gregg Marler of Hillsboro, Illinois; daughter-in-law Tina Marler of Odessa, Florida; son David (Julie) Marler of Decatur; sister Rose Lubitz of Honolulu, Hawaii; sister-in-law Sharon Spomer of Tuscola; grandchildren Jamie Marie Marler, Candace Nicole Marler, Michaela Anne Marler (all of Decatur, IL), Jared Michael Marler, Haven Noelle Mae Marler, and Reese Charles Marler (all of Odessa, FL); nieces Carolyn Wolfe and Elizabeth Smith, and nephew Brian Marler.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, John Francis Marler; brother, Frank Wayne Marler; and son, Noel Jared Marler.
Funeral services will be held at the Tuscola United Church of Christ, 114 East Pembroke Street, on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Deal officiating. Burial will follow in the Tuscola Township Cemetery.
Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church.
Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, IL is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
