Obituary

Charles E. "Chuck" Crowder, 89, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:20 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Burial with military graveside rites will follow the service at the Tuscola Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Eastern Star and Masonic Services will be held immediately following the visitation.

Chuck was born on February 12, 1928 in Parke County, IN, the son of William Francis and Mary Ellen Parker Crowder. He married Roseann D. "Rosie" Mayer on December 24, 1955 in Tuscola, IL.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years "Rosie", daughter: Susie (Dale) Lonzerotti of Springfield, IL, son: Jimmy "Jim" (Winnie) Crowder of Tuscola, granddaughter: Jennifer (Kyle) McDowell, great-grandchildren: Parker, Alexis and Leeman, brother: Kenneth (Betty) Crowder of South Bend, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Leo, Tom and Dave Crowder and sister: Martha Mae Oswald.

Memorials are suggested to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, 57 Country Place, Springfield, IL 62703 or Shriners' Hospitals for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Chuck worked as a conductor for 38 years and retired from B&O Railroad in July 1985. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Indianapolis American Legion Post #777. He was recently able to go on an Honor Flight with his son to Washington, DC. Chuck was a member and Past Master of the Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332, AF & AM, member and twice Past Patron of Tuscola Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Danville Valley Scottish Rite, Melita Commandery #37, Paris Council #19 Cryptic Masons, Corn Belt Shrine Club and Ansar Shrine.

Chuck and Rosie enjoyed spending their winters together in Texas. He was a devoted family man, enjoyed camping, working puzzles and listening to classic country music.
