Carolyn M. Sanders, 84 of Atwood, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026 at the United Church of Atwood, 210 North Main Street, Atwood, IL. Burial will be held at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL.

Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

Carolyn was born on August 17, 1941 at Christopher, IL, the daughter of Oatho and Helen Long Sims. She married Marvin L. Sanders on August 29, 1959 in Atwood. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2009.

Survivors include her son: Doug (Lori) Sanders of Bloomington, daughter: Pam (Eugene) Simpson of Atwood, grandsons: Tad (Jamie) Simpson, Anthony (Amber) Sanders and Josh Simpson, 3 great-grandchildren: Keely, Archer and Ari, brother: Ronnie Sims and many other extended family members. Carolyn was especially fond of her dog “Tootsie”.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Carl E. Sims.

Carolyn graduated from Atwood-Hammond High School in 1959. She was the Assistant Vice President of the Atwood First State Bank until her retirement in 2010. Her faith was very important to her. She was a very active member of the United Church of Atwood, where she enjoyed being a member of the Women’s Fellowship, attending bible studies and serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Carolyn was a member of the Atwood Women’s Club and 16 High Card Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, and needlework. Carolyn loved her family and her many friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
