Obituary

Carolyn A. Fleming, age 78, of Atwood, IL went to Heaven to meet her Lord on Friday, September 6th, 2013.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Atwood, 231 North Illinois Street, Atwood, IL, Dr. Lanny Faulkner will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m., at the church. Burial will be in Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Carolyn was born on September 21, 1934 in Decatur IL, daughter of Bernard and Cloie Randall Wilkerson. She married Robert Fleming on July 11, 1954 in Mattoon IL. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2009.

She is survived by her two sons, Randy (Nedra) Fleming of Oren, Utah and Bill (Shari) Fleming of Atwood IL; five grandchildren: David (Cara) Fleming of Springfield IL, Mitch (Lesley) Fleming of Newman IL, Amy Fleming of Atwood IL, Matt (Tonia) Fleming of Charleston IL and Drew Fleming of Sullivan IL; and 2 great-grandchildren, Carter Mitchell Fleming – son of Mitch and Lesley Fleming and Autumn Skye Espeland – daughter of Amy Fleming and John Espeland.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Carolyn graduated from Atwood High School in 1952. She worked at the high school as secretary for two years. After her marriage, she worked for Attorney Ralph Suddes and Judge Jacob Berkowitz in Mattoon. After moving back to Atwood in 1956, she worked at the Atwood Herald for twelve years and was Secretary/Treasurer at the First Baptist Church for 12 years.

She was past president of the Piatt County Republican Women and past president of the Atwood Women's Club.

She served in many areas of ministry at the Atwood Baptist Church, including Sunday School teacher, Church Clerk and led a Women's Bible Study for many years.

Carolyn had a deep love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Until her health made it impossible, she always attended school functions where her grandchildren participated.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Atwood.
