Carl Edward Ballinger, 95, of Forsyth, IL, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Dennis Hanner officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be held at the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL
Mr. Ballinger was born on March 4, 1916 in Trowbridge, IL, the son of Louis W. and Anna Whitaker Ballinger. He married Mary Goodrich on July 5, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2011.
Survivors include his brother: Tom Ballinger of Mesa, AZ, sister: Esther Klepzig of Alton, IL, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Carl was a retired barber and farmer. He served his country during World War II in the South Pacific as a member of the US Army. Carl was a member of the Central Illinois Antique Car Club and a member of the Cerro Gordo American Legion Post #117.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers: Irma, Sheila and Amy.
