Phillip "Bubba" Smith, 56, of Mattoon, formerly of Arcola, died at 5:45 AM Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 28, 2014 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Donald Winch officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Bubba was born June 27, 1957 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of Charles and Mary Lou Embry Smith. He married Joy Daniels in Arcola on May 15, 1982.
Survivors include his wife Joy Smith of Mattoon; stepson, Bill Westenhaver of Mexico City, Mexico; 2 sisters, Cora (Chuck) Hershman and Diane Smith both of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; 2 brothers, Joe Smith of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; Chris Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; 3 sisters-in-law, Kathy (Karl) Carter of New Orleans, Louisiana; Lisa (Keith) Shonkwiler of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; Susan Paris of Mattoon; and over 30 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bubba was a graduate of Arcola High School Class of 1975 where he played football. He was active in the Arcola Jaycees for 20 years, having served as past president and named Jaycee of the Year. He was an avid bowler for 40 years and was a member of the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame for two perfect 300 games.
Bubba had worked for the Thomas Monahan Co., Trailmobile, and most recently, CHI Overhead Doors in Arthur.
