Brian Karl Walkup, 55, of Webb City, MO, died on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with Rev. Don Gerkin officiating. No Visitation will be held. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is handling the local arrangements.
Brian was born on March 22, 1957 in Tuscola, IL, the son of Wayne and Virginia Miller Walkup.
He attended Millikin University, attained his Registered Nurse license from Decatur Memorial Hospital and his BSN from the University of Texas at Arlington. He spent his medical career at Baylor University Medical Center, Arlington Memorial Hospital both in Arlington, TX and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX, working in the ER and ICU areas. He was an avid reader, history buff, and enjoyed music, the theatre and traveling.
He is survived by his parents at Baxter Springs, KS, one sister: Pam Wolfe of Winfield, KS, one brother: Tracy Walkup of Norcross, GA, several nieces and nephews, and his longtime partner: Christina Bottger of Joplin, MO.
He was preceded in death by his sister: Donna Eastin of Atwood, IL.
