William H. "Bill" Schweighart, 65, of Tuscola, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 22, 2024 at his residence.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with funeral services following with Pastor Brian Byers, Pastor Brandon Lowery and Tuscola Fire Department Chaplain Joseph Carter officiating. Military Rites for the US Marine Corps Veteran will be held following the service at the funeral home.
A Fire Department walk-through will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Bill was born on March 1, 1959 in Urbana, the son of Joseph J. Schweighart and Shirley Schweighart.
Survivors include his mother Shirley Schweighart of Tuscola, his children: Christie (Jonathan) Stewart of Gladewater, TX, Scott Lowery of Arp, TX and Brandon (Christina) Lowery of Streamwood, IL, grandchildren: Brandon, Mikinzi and Caitlyn Stewart, Morgan Lowery, Colin, Gabriel and Eleanor Lowery, siblings: Carol Ann Meeker of Tolono, Sharon (Michael) Kirby of Urbana, Linda J. (Ken) Byers of Arthur, Robert J. "Bob" (Darlene) Schweighart of Tolono, sister-in-law: Beverly Schweighart of Tuscola and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and brothers: Thomas M. Schweighart and Larry J. Schweighart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Tuscola Fire Department.
Bill graduated from Tuscola High School in 1977. He served his country in the US Marine Corps for 3 years. He was a member of the Third Battalion, Platoon #3075. Bill worked as a Team Leader for the Illinois Department of Transportation for many years. Upon his retirement, he continued to serve as an instructor and driver for the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign.
Bill has served on the Tuscola Fire Department since 1995, obtaining the rank of Captain.
He was a member of the Teamster's Local #26 and the Tuscola Moose Lodge.
Bill's family would like to especially thank his caregivers: Gracen, Chris, Donica and Mitchell for taking such good care of him during his illness.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing games on his computer.
