Bettye J. Gilmore, 87, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 3:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Kathy Murphy officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL.
Bettye was born on June 15, 1928 in Douglas County, IL, the daughter of Stephen Andrew and Nora Frances Wildman Riddle. She married Norman R. Gilmore on September 21, 1949 in Louisville, KY. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1989.
Survivors include her son: Alan (Emily) Gilmore of Grafton, IL, daughters: Susan Swinford of Champaign, Carol (Bob) Arnett of Hammond and Donna Hensler of Urbana, grandsons: Clay, Travis, Taylor and Harlan, granddaughters: Stephanie, Holly and Chambry, great-grandson: Thaddeus, step-grandsons: Andy and Kevin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: John, Sylvan and Floyd Riddle and a sister: Ethel Buxton.
Bettye was a farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Parkville United Methodist Church. Bettye loved gardening, working in her flower garden and watching Fighting Illini basketball games. She helped for over 60 years to put American flags on veteran's graves for the Pesotum American Legion.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkville United Methodist Church, Arthur Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
